Want to join New Zealand's community of lawyers who're interested in human rights?

You can join the Association for a small annual fee if you are a lawyer or law student. The membership fee helps to keep our work going and provides members with access to our events and discounts to our Continuing Legal Education courses, as well as making you part of a community of like-minded professionals.

As we are a lawyers' association, we generally do not accept applications from non-lawyers. However, if you are a non-lawyer, you can apply to join by emailing us and explaining why you wish to join. For example, we happily accept applications from legal academics who have not practiced as lawyers, overseas qualified lawyers, and those who work in closely-related fields.

You can join HRLA by filling in this form and paying the prescribed membership fee. If you have any questions, please email us at
